Mobile phone companies step up to help Japan

"The disaster in Japan is simply mind-boggling to watch from afar, even worse for those with family and friends in the country. Communication with those affected is crucial during times such as these, and most U.S. phone companies are stepping up to offer free calls and text messages to Japan.

T-Mobile today has announced free call and text messages to Japan, joining Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and Comcast in the effort. AT&T and T-Mobile will offer the free service to Japan through March 31, while the others will provide it through April 11. Given the magnitude of the disaster it wouldn’t be surprising if some or all of these companies extend that free service

T-Mobile customers can help by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999 and a $10 donation to help Japan will be applied to your mobile phone bill."
