Seeing very high tweeting in Al Khobar Saudi Arabia

Seeing Khobar Saudi Arabia, with a population of under 400,000 tweeting in places at over 70 on our scale. This is extremely unusual. Firstly Saudi Arabian tweeting until recently was rather low, and also Khobar is a very small place.

Clearly people are talking about something in Khobar. But what? This small city has a Shia population in the mostly Sunni nation. It is also close to Bahrain where the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is is engaged in a crack down.

We feel confident to assume that a large part of this heavy tweeting is related to politics. Political debates concerning the Kingdoms participation in Bahrain and also the conditions of Shia living in Saudi Arabia.

We will continue to watch Saudi Arabia very closely. We are seeing surging use of twitter in many of the major cities across the Kingdom and there is a possibility that these are laying the conditions for a larger set of protests that may take place in the future.
